At the end of 2016, I travelled with two friends to the town of Tullah in Western Tasmania to take on a mountain that I’d been keen on for a while – Mt Murchison.

Mount Murchison is known for its rocky terrain, highland lakes and superb views. We began the walk at about 9:30am and endured a steep forest walk for the first hour or so.

As you ascend out of the forest section, you begin to see the steep cliff section that awaits. You also start to see the amazing lakes (there are several along the way).

After about 3.5 hours of climbing, we finally reached the peak. We were treated with spectacular views over the surrounding towns, rivers and even to the coast of Western Tasmania.

I thoroughly recommend this walk to anyone. It’s certainly one of the best quality day walks in Tasmania. There’s a local tradition of throwing a cooked  sausage off the top of the mountain supposedly to ward off native animals that you might encounter on the way back. This local folklore has become somewhat tradition and is considered good manners to engage in when climbing the mountain. The journey took about 5-6 hours return. Contact me if you want more information on the walk.

Welcome to My Blog!

Hello Internet!

Welcome to my new blog. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m a young Tasmanian bushwalker and outdoor enthusiast. I like to spend weekends discovering the wonders of Tasmania’s sceneric mountains, rivers and countryside.

Recently I’ve become very interested in not only the beautiful natural landscapes, but the local tales and folklore surrounding these unique places. As I travel around Tasmania, climbing, exploring and adventuring (I’m not sure if that’s a word but I think it should be, lol!), I get to hear some of the history and the stories about particular places. I’ve decided that this year I’ll be recording my adventures and I’ll be mentioning any interesting tales or folklore about the places I go.

I hope you enjoy coming along with me on my exciting adventures!! 🙂

Peace, love and respect to every one of you
